Today I was quite frustrated. I took Roe in for his weight check...and he weighed 8 lb., 7 oz! Yep, that's 4 oz. less than when we left the hospital last Friday. Although he has to weigh naked at the doctor's office, yet in the hospital, was weighed with a diaper, his pants, and his IV stuff. Fortunately Roe was wearing the same pants he wore some in the hospital so I put his diaper back on and threw the pants on the scale and he was up to 8 lb., 11 oz. I tried to remain calm as I figured the IV stuff had to weigh more than we thought too, and maybe he's gained a little since being home. The nurse said she'd talk to the doctor and give me a call later. So I scheduled an appointment for another weight check and left...disappointed and frustrated!
I know part of the problem is that I breastfeed, and therefore I take "no weight gain" personally...like it's my fault. Of course, I called John and he was very positive, as always, and reminded me that Roe gained from the last time he weighed at the doctor's office. Later in the day, I talked to another friend who mentioned the same thing. Well, I started counting that it was just 13 days ago that Roe weighed 7 lb., 13 oz., and now he weighed 9 oz. more. Not to mention that 7 of those days were spent in the hospital. Okay, I'm feeling better now.
Finally, the nurse calls, and guess what she says? When looking back at Roe's chart, he's gained 9 oz. in 13 days, and the doctor is fine with that! YEAH!!! Now, I still have to take him back next week for another weight check and a repeat chest x-ray, but I am feeling better about the whole thing.
Oh, dear Becky...try to stay calm in these situations. The Lord is in control, and loves your Bably Roe!
